3D printed ferry

During the Paris Olympics, a 3D printed autonomous electric ferry will travel on the Seine.

When bidding, the Paris Olympic Organizing Committee promised to host the most sustainable Olympic Games in history. In order to explore a more environmentally friendly way of travel, the French Inland Waterways Administration previously launched a national solicitation for autonomous passenger ship plans. The 3D printed autonomous electric ferry plan jointly proposed by the Netherlands Shipbuilding Group and three other companies won.

The person in charge of the construction team said that this autonomous electric ferry uses recycled materials and the hull is made of 3D printing technology. The ferry is 9 meters long and 3.9 meters wide, which may be the world's largest 3D printed autonomous ferry to date.

The electric ferry is equipped with an LED lighting system, which provides good lighting conditions for the cabin. The windows of the ferry are made of translucent glass, which protects passengers from strong sunlight. At the same time, this material of glass will not affect passengers' beautiful view of the Seine.

The person in charge of the construction team said that the electric ferry is very smart. It can achieve full electric automatic driving, wireless charging, and can automatically dock and park without any manual operation.

Laser anti-drone system

At present, more and more small and medium-sized drones are entering people's lives: e-commerce uses drones to deliver goods, tourists use drones for aerial photography... However, in recent years, drones have invaded airports and major event venues. Preventing drones from invading the stadium is one of the important tasks of the organizers of the Paris Olympics and the Paris Paralympics.

In 2022, the French government decided to order a laser anti-drone system called HELMA-P, which will be deployed in and around the main venues of the Paris Olympics.

It is understood that the HELMA-P laser anti-drone system has a range of 1 km to 7 km and can detect, identify, track and destroy drones and other targets.

"This laser anti-drone system has obvious advantages in shooting down drones in the air. It can 'blow' the hit objects into charcoal, and the laser will not extend further, effectively avoiding harming innocent people." Philippe Gross, a senior researcher at the French security and defense think tank Strategic Research Foundation, said.

Nowadays, organizers of large-scale events, sports events, international summits, etc. will deploy equipment to deal with drone invasions. During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Japanese police set up a monitoring system specifically for drones around the Olympic venues to prevent possible terrorist attacks.

French relevant department staff said that the HELMA-P laser anti-drone system is concealed in appearance, not easy to be discovered, and does not make any noise, and has almost no impact on the lives of surrounding residents.
